Sky Harbor Airport Terminal 4, S-2 Expansion
PHX Sky Harbor
A large component of the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport Terminal 4 renovation and expansion was the full overhaul of Level 3 converting it into a retail concourse, adding a section for all the new "D" gates, plus full audiovisual planning and design to ensure speech intelligibilty metrics were met for Terminals 2, 3 and 4. Achieving proper speech intelligibility was especially challenging because the prior main concourse had full carpeting and acoustical ceilings but the new design required all tile flooring and gypsum board ceilings plus many glass walls for retail.
The Terminal 4 expansion involved the addition of 120,000sf, a new 470 foot bridge, and widening of the international concourse to accommodate 10 new gates.
The S2 Concourse addition provided a total of 180,000 sf spread over 3 levels to accommodate gates, restaurants, and retail concessions.
MCH was engaged on this fast-track 10 month construction schedule and provided comprehensive acoustical and audiovisula services. Additional work included the design of several elements such as a relocated chapel, relocated art gallery, toilets, retail merchandising units, information booths and selected TSA security areas.
