Orange Coast College Planetarium
Orange Coast College
The Orange Coast College's state-of-the art Planetarium and museum complex in Costa Mesa, CAreplaced architect Richard Neutra's original, smaller project. The new Dome Theatre is the centerpiece of the facility, featuring 129 uni-directional reclined seats beneath the 50-foot, 12 degree-tilted, domed projection screen. Powering the Theatre is a state-of-the-art Digistar 6 platform working in concert with six Sony GTZ 270 Laser Projectors to deliver immersive 8K resolution photo and video. The facility accommodates an unusually wide range of presentation types including, in addition to state-of-the art planetarium shows, lectures, surround sound and live music performances. The facility includes offices and a small gift shop.
MCH provided full-scope Acoustical and Audiovisual design, with close coordination with NOAA in designing and deploying the “Science on a Sphere” and “SOS Explorer” exhibit pieces.
